Sette 30 vs Sette 270 vs Sette 270Wi: which Sette?

The three Sette grinders share one fast, low-retention platform — the differences are adjustment resolution and how doses are measured. Verified comparison.

All three Sette grinders use the same direct-through design (no chute; coffee falls straight from the grind chamber into your portafilter or grounds bin), the same 300 g shut-off hopper, the same removable adjustment ring with shims, and the same repositionable arms. The differences are in two dimensions: how precisely you set the grind, and how the dose is measured.

What that means practically

  • Sette 30: the speed and low retention of the platform with simple macro steps. Fine for press, pour-over, and dialing espresso within reason — but between two macro steps you cannot fine-tune, which matters when a shot runs 5 g/s too fast and there's no setting between.
  • Sette 270: the stepless micro ring is the real espresso upgrade — the manufacturer describes every macro setting as subdivided for "270 pinpoint grind sizes." Most home espresso users land here.
  • Sette 270Wi: dosing by weight rather than time. Beans, roast level, and humidity all change how many grams a second of grinding delivers; the scale removes that variable entirely, hands-free into the portafilter.

When none of them fit

If you mostly brew filter coffee, the Sette platform is espresso-optimized — the Encore or Virtuoso+ does the same job for less. And if you want single-dosing by weight on a different platform, the Vario W+ is the flat-burr alternative at the same $599.95.

Verified against Baratza's product pages and spec blocks, checked 2026-09-21. The Sette 270's electrical spec block was not captured in our research pass — its page is marked partial rather than filled by inference from its siblings.
