Espresso Evolution vs Carezza Deluxe: Gaggia's compact semi-autos

$299.99 vs $349 for Gaggia's two entry semi-automatics — thermoblock vs boiler, and what the extra $50 actually buys.

These two machines are Gaggia's answer to "I want real espresso on a small counter and a small budget." Both are made in Italy, both use an auto-frothing Pannarello wand rather than a texture-by-hand steam wand, and both accept ESE pods.

The honest read

  • Tightest space and budget: the Evolution is one of the smallest and lightest genuine espresso machines sold; the removable drip tray adds over an inch of cup clearance for taller mugs.
  • Slightly more machine: the Carezza adds a boiler temperature display and a genuinely convenient front-loading reservoir, in a more traditional Gaggia silhouette.
  • Neither is a latte-art machine: both wands auto-froth. If microfoam technique matters, save for the Classic Pro with its commercial-style wand instead.
