Cleaning and maintaining Fellow Opus grinders: what the manufacturer documents

The documented cleaning, anti-static, and burr-wear routines for Opus 1 — and what Fellow has published so far for Opus 2.

Checked against: Fellow help center · Last verified: 2026-09-22

This guide points to the manufacturer's supported procedures, verified 2026-09-22. We do not claim hands-on testing.

Opus 1: documented care

  • Fellow's help center publishes "How Do I Clean and Maintain Opus 1?" — the authoritative cleaning procedure, including the burr area.
  • Anti-static ionizer: Fellow documents a specific failure mode — "The anti-static on Opus 1 stopped working, and it's messy!" — with its own troubleshooting article. If grounds cling and spray, that article is the first stop.
  • Burr wear: Fellow states burrs are built for the product's lifetime, and provides the inner-ring calibration procedure (see our adjustment rings guide) to compensate as wear drifts output coarser.
  • Load-bin interlock: after any cleaning that removes the load bin, reseat it fully — the grinder will not run otherwise (documented safety feature).
  • Timing: Fellow documents a grind-timing workflow for repeatable single doses.

Opus 2: what's published so far

The Opus 2 ships with a gear-guide page and the store's documentation; as of this check Fellow's help center still indexes most cleaning articles under Opus 1. We have not yet captured an Opus 2-specific cleaning article — treat Opus 1 guidance as a pointer only where Fellow says it applies, and follow the Opus 2 manual otherwise. (Queued for verification.)

What we do not know

  • Fellow does not publish a burr-lifespan figure in kg for the Opus line (Eureka publishes 300 kg for its 55 mm burrs, by comparison).
  • Replacement-burr part numbers for either Opus generation are not yet captured in the archive.
