Baratza Encore ESP: grind settings, cleaning, and burr replacement

The ESP's two-range adjustment system, Baratza's suggested settings per brew method, and the official cleaning and quick-release burr procedure.

Every fact below is from Baratza's official Encore ESP product page and owner manual, verified 2026-09-24. We claim no hands-on testing.

The two-range adjustment system

The Encore ESP's grind adjustment is divided into two parts: an espresso range (settings 1–20) and a filter range (settings 21–40). In the espresso range each step changes the grind size only slightly, for dialing in shots.

Suggested starting settings (from Baratza's manual)

| Brew | Suggested setting | |---|---| | Espresso (18 g dose, medium roast) | 15 | | AeroPress | 22 | | Hario V60 | 25 | | Automatic brewer | 28 | | Chemex | 30 | | French press | 32 |

What's in the box (per the manual)

Hopper lid, bean hopper, dosing cup with base, a 58 mm adapter ring, the on/off knob, a brush, shims, and the grounds bin with a max-fill line. The weighted base is part of the unit.

Cleaning and burr replacement

  • Hand-wash the hopper lid, bean hopper, dosing cup, and grounds bin in warm soapy water; air dry.
  • Do not wash the ring burr in water — Baratza warns it will rust.
  • The cone burr has a quick-release knob on top, so it removes without tools for cleaning or burr replacement.
  • Clean the housing only with a dry or slightly damp cloth; never immerse the grinder.
  • Align the grind-setting indicator with the triangle near setting 40 and twist the hopper clockwise to install — the grinder will not start without the hopper fitted.

Flagged for confirmation: the "40 mm steel conical burrs by Etzinger" figure comes from retailer listings, not Baratza's own pages, and is marked accordingly on the Encore ESP record.
